Merry Christmas everybody this is the
final entry and the 25 things Jesus says
about Christmas which means if you’re
following this in real time it’s
Christmas Day and I’m personally honored
and I’m proud of you even that you would
take the time to go through the season
like this with me and to allow Jesus’s
words to challenge you and to shape the
way you celebrate the season to go
deeper into not just coast this season
but to get introspective and to try to
extract something meaningful out of it I
know I’ve learned a lot I’ve had a ton
of fun putting these videos together and
I hope the same is true for you in fact
of these 25 videos if you could leave a
comment below which one of these videos
stood out to you the most which one was
most impactful I’d love to hear your
answers now if you remember we’ve been
ending our countdown by going through
the account of when Jesus stood in his
home synagogue and and read the Prophet
Isaiah’s prophecy about the Messiah and
to see how Jesus fulfills that criteria
and today we end Isaiah’s prophecy with
number one of our countdown when Jesus
reads he has sent me to proclaim the
year of the Lord’s favor now you might
be thinking the what the year of the
Lord’s favor we’re ending our countdown
on this but this is actually a really
powerful term and let me explain in a
couple weeks you’re likely going to be
getting a credit card bill from you know
a purchase that you made in December and
you’re gonna be hating yourself in
January for the way you overspent at
Christmas I know this because the
average debt that people incur in the
month of December is 1054 dollars now
imagine if you open your credit card
bill next month and instead of saying
1054 dollars it says paid in full I know
right
it’d be pretty incredible in the Jewish
system people would work for six years
and and there was just this
understanding that inequity would build
up in the system over the course of
those six years some folks would incur
debt and some folks would collect
interest and those debts they would be
cancelled in full and in Judaism God
would command this year of Jubilee or
the year of the Lord’s favor so that you
would remember God’s promise to remember
your sin
no more when Jesus was standing in the
synagogue reading those words he was
proclaiming that now now we are living
in the year of the Lord’s favor because
he has come to pay our debts in full and
ultimately what Jesus says about
Christmas is that this is just the
beginning of the year of the Lord’s
favor I hope that all of the 25 things
Jesus says about Christmas changes the
way you celebrate this day and changes
the way you hear these words Merry
Christmas

I don’t know how to make paper chains.

Every day leading up to Christmas I’ll count down the “25 Things Jesus Says About Christmas” to see how it changes the way you and I celebrate the season when we go straight to the source!

Merry Christmas everybody my name is
Chris Pavle and you found the 25 things
Jesus says about Christmas you see how
it changes the way you and I celebrate
the season when we go straight to the
source now if you’re following us in
real time Christmas Eve is here it is
Christmas and man I can just feel the
excitement in the air I love this time
of year actually think I like Christmas
even more that like Christmas day my
paper chain is falling apart here hang
on a second while I try to fix this
something about the mystique and
intrigue and mystery of Christmas Eve
just makes me feel alive and as we see
number 2 of our countdown that’s exactly
how we should feel now if you remember
back from our last couple videos we’ve
been looking at this account from the
biographies of Jesus where he returns to
his home synagogue and reads a prophecy
about the Messiah and everyone kind of
holds that criteria up to Jesus and
that’s what we’re doing is we close out
our countdown here and oh my goodness
these preteens keep on falling apart on
me my wife is more crafty than I am I
should have had her make this now Jesus
continues to read through Isaiah’s
prophecy and he reads the words he has
sent me to set the oppressed free now if
you’ve grown up with any sort of
privilege or prosperity these are hard
words to understand look at this I guess
somehow it’s fitting that this keeps
falling apart the chains keep on
breaking because it’s demonstrating when
Jesus says here but just take a moment
to ask somebody who’s experienced any
sort of oppression because of their race
their gender their orientation their
nationality and they can tell you what
it’s like to be truly oppressed a couple
weeks ago I was talking to my neighbor
who’s african-american and he was
telling me about what it was like to
grow up in a segregated south and
listening to his stories oh my gosh this
change keep breaking but listening to
his stories it was just it was powerful
and I was touched by it but no matter
how moved and emotional and touched I am
by his stories I don’t know what it’s
like to live his experience now if you
applied that same concept to Jesus and
you follow his claims he’s sitting up in
heaven separated from all sorts of
suffering and pain and sorrow so he
comes down from heaven to be with us and
to experience what we experience on a
day-to-day basis
Saints keep breaking and he came to be
oppressed and associate himself with the
oppressed and he left all of the wealth
and privilege and power of
to come be with us that he might set the
oppressed free and how does this change
the way you and I celebrate the season
well let’s reverse engineer this whole
idea of Jesus breaking the chains of
oppression so right now just think of
any blessing that you have any kind of
blessing something that you’ve received
that was a gift that you didn’t earn it
was just given to you think of any
blessing and then recognize that
whatever you call a blessing to somebody
else who doesn’t have it they call it a
privilege they don’t have the privilege
of experiencing that thing and that
blessing that you just thought of you
can share it with somebody else if
you’re sitting in your house and you
thought of your utilities you can call a
utility company and offer to pay
somebody’s utility bill seriously you
can do that right now you can pick up
the phone call utility company and pay
for an unpaid bill if you’ve got a
family and friends you can go to a
nursing home and ask if anybody is
lonely this season and just sit down and
ask them how they’re doing and spend
some time talking with them and getting
to know them almost I’m gonna stop
trying to fix these because it’s okay
it’s the chains break especially if
you’re in a place where you can employ
others I encourage you to employ
somebody who doesn’t have the skill set
you’re looking for teach them and train
them in a skill set and give them an
employable skill that moves them forward
in life and when you do that when you
set the oppressed free when you share
your blessings you have a whole new
criteria to consider is this who the
Messiah must be that’s not all that
Jesus says about Christmas I know it’s
Christmas Eve but if you would like to
consider some more of what Jesus says
about Christmas I’ve got a playlist
right over here you can take a look at
it Merry Christmas
tomorrow’s a big day but don’t forget to
join us tomorrow for number 25 hundred
pound out you guys have a great great
night Merry Christmas

#04 of our countdown changes the way you look at the toys under your tree.

Every day leading up to Christmas I’ll count down the “25 Things Jesus Says About Christmas” to see how it changes the way you and I celebrate the season when we go straight to the source!

five golden rings actually those aren’t
the rings they were talking about but it
works hey everybody my name is Chris
Paula welcome to what Jesus says about
what we’re talking about the 25 things
Jesus says about Christmas because we
want to see how it changes the way you
and I celebrate the season when we go
straight to the source and we are on
number five of our countdown which means
we’re getting really really close to
Christmas Day now in our last video we
talked about how Jesus went back to his
hometown and if you missed it you can
check it out in this little card that
pops up right here
but when Jesus went to his hometown he
basically declared that he is the
Messiah and everybody in the synagogue
holds up
Isaiah’s criteria for the Messiah to
Jesus and they make a conclusion for
themselves if they think he is Messiah
based on this criteria and what we’re
gonna do in the rest of our countdown is
look at the different things that Isaiah
said the Messiah would be as we continue
our countdown of the 25 things Jesus
says about Christmas right after Jesus
reads that the Spirit of the Lord is on
me he has anointed me he says these
words he has sent me to proclaim good
news to the poor now I don’t know if you
knew this but Jesus was raised in
poverty himself in fact right after his
birth instead of presenting a normal
offering his parents went to the temple
and presented a peasant’s offering
instead so when Jesus reads these words
that he has sent me to proclaim good
news to the poor
that good news begins not just that he
is for the poor but that he is with them
and so being from poverty himself
Jesus’s entire ministry he is always
praising the poor like in the
biographies of Jesus we have accounts
where he’s praising the offering of a
poor Widow and criticizing the offering
of a rich man he chastised the rich and
he told them that their wealth made it
difficult to enter the kingdom of God
and on the flip side he told the poor
they were already blessed because theirs
was the kingdom of heaven and there’s a
time where Jesus was saddened by a rich
man who couldn’t sell everything you
have and give to the poor and Jesus
praised a rich man named Zacchaeus when
he did just that so when Jesus says he
is sent to proclaim good news to the
poor
these aren’t just words he cared for
affirmed and elevated the poor
throughout his entire ministry so out of
these words change the way that you and
I celebrate the season well you may not
see yourself as rich but if you have a
smartphone or a computer if you have
multiple pairs of shoes if you have
running water then to the half of the
planet that lives on less than $5 a day
you’re wealthy ninety-five percent of
the planet makes less than $35,000 a
year so in the next few days whenever
you see a Salvation Army person ringing
a bell proclaim good news to the poor
and give and not just some spare change
or a few bucks but blow them away give a
lavish amount whatever that is for you
give so much that if you received it you
consider it good news give until it
hurts and yes it’ll be hard but when you
do this you can ask yourself on an
experience level why is this a necessary
trait of the Messiah and frankly it’s a
message you shouldn’t answer and can’t
answer until you’ve tried now this isn’t
all that Jesus says about Christmas
we’ve got a playlist right here of the
other 25 things that Jesus says about
Christmas go ahead and take a look and
we will see you soon Merry Christmas

Got some difficult relatives you’re gonna’ see back home this Christmas? It’s actually a fitting way to celebrate Jesus.

Every day leading up to Christmas I’ll count down the “25 Things Jesus Says About Christmas” to see how it changes the way you and I celebrate the season when we go straight to the source!

Merry Christmas everybody my name is
crisp Avila and welcome to what Jesus
says about where we’re counting down
with the 25 things Jesus says about
Christmas to see how it changes the way
you and I celebrate the season when we
go straight to the source now packing
your suitcase and traveling back to
visit your family and friends has always
been a part of the holidays but that’s
fitting as we’ve seen number six of our
countdown Jesus traveled back to his
hometown to tell them why he was born
Jesus had been preaching and teaching
and healing and all these villages all
over and the word had gotten back to his
hometown of what had happened so when he
arrived in his hometown it was kind of a
big deal now you got to imagine that the
whole town was electric and the
synagogue was packed to the rafters
because people wanted to see if Jesus
was gonna do here what they heard he had
done elsewhere but as it gets up to
deliver a message instead Jesus gets up
and walks to the front of the synagogue
grabs a scroll of the prophet Isaiah
unrolls it and reads these words the
Spirit of the Lord is on me because he
has anointed me now we’ll get to the
rest of what Jesus says in the following
videos but I want to stop here and zoom
in on this word anointed because this
isn’t a word that we use in our culture
very much anymore and the ancient Hebrew
word oil would be poured on somebody and
they would be anointed for a specific
task and so like priests were anointed
or Kings were anointed actually that’s
still the practice that you see in some
monarchies today but Jewish people
believed that God was conferring his
power upon somebody when they were
anointed for a specific task when you
were anointed you were appointed for
something very specific but what makes
Jesus reading these words so interesting
is that the Jewish people were also
waiting for the Anointed One the Messiah
or Messiah the one that God had promised
he would send from the line of David to
rule his people and in the Greek
language the word for Anointed One
Christ and 500 years after isaiah writes
these words here’s jesus back in his
home synagogue in a village of nazareth
proclaiming that he
is the one that Isaiah wrote about he is
the coming king he is the Promised One
he is the Messiah he is the Anointed One
he is the appointed one so as Jesus
packs his bags and travels back to his
hometown that’s the news that’s the bomb
that he drops and everybody in this you
can imagine it made some people very
upset
but it’s here that we can see how these
words of Jesus changed the way that you
and I celebrate the season because think
about it however you react to Jesus’s
claim that he’s the Messiah somebody in
that synagogue packed wall-to-wall with
people somebody in that synagogue had
the same exact reaction that you did but
the difference would be that the people
in the synagogue sat there and they were
like okay well what’s the criteria of
the Messiah and they held Jesus up to
the criteria of the Messiah so what
we’re gonna do the rest of these videos
in our countdown is look at Isaiah’s
criteria for the Messiah and hold it up
to Jesus II you can respond for yourself
I think it’s a great way for you and I
to honor his birth and celebrate the
seasons you just sit there and go okay
if I was sitting in that synagogue how
would I react to Jesus’s words how do I
respond to Jesus’s claim that he’s the
Messiah in the meantime I’ve got some
other videos over here of the other 25
things Jesus says about Christmas make
sure you check those out also don’t
forget to hit like and subscribe thank
you so much and have a Merry Christmas

If your life was a story, in what section of the bookstore would you find it?? #7 of our countdown might change your answer.

hey everybody Merry Christmas my name is
Chris pop Allah and welcome to what
Jesus says about what we’re talking
about the 25 things Jesus says about
Christmas to see how it changes the way
you and I celebrate the season when we
go straight to the source now in our
last video we talked about how Jesus
says he is sending us and then right
after that he gives us our next insight
into Christmas when he says everything
must be fulfilled that is written about
me and the law of Moses the prophets and
the Psalms this is a huge claim and it’s
easy to miss it we have magnitude of
what he’s claiming here he’s standing in
the middle of Jerusalem and the shadow
of the Jewish temple and he’s claiming
that the entirety of the Jewish
Scriptures Genesis and the creation and
Noah Abraham and then Moses and the Ten
Commandments and the exodus David and
the Psalms and all the prophets all of
that points forward to Jesus so how does
this change the way that you and I
celebrate Christmas well recognize that
your story is bigger than you your story
with all of the pages that are written
before and all of the blank pages that
follow your story is still being written
out maybe your story is still in act one
or maybe you’ve taken the adventurous
turn into act 2 or or maybe you’re
feeling the hopeless moments that begin
with act 3 and just like the stories of
Abraham and Moses and David all point
forward to Jesus because of Christmas no
matter what paragraphs have been written
about you your story now points back to
Jesus – I know if that’s a story full of
hope and joy that’s not all the Jesus
says about Christmas – go ahead and take
a look at this countdown video over here
of the other 25 things Jesus says about
Christmas thank you so much and we’ll
see you soon

You’ve given gifts. You’ve received gifts. But what Jesus says about Christmas makes you think about yourself as a third option: a messenger.

Every day leading up to Christmas I’ll count down the “25 Things Jesus Says About Christmas” to see how it changes the way you and I celebrate the season when we go straight to the source!

Merry Christmas my name is Chris pop
Allah you found the 25 things Jesus says
about Christmas to see how it might
change the way that you and I celebrate
the season when we go straight to the
source so here we are we are officially
if you’re following our countdown in
real time we are one week away from
Christmas and that means that your
delivery drivers are working overtime
quick tip do something nice for them
leave them a tip bake them some cookies
do something nice they’re working
overtime guys and they have to work
overtime because in the month of
December over 800 million packages will
be delivered 800 million in Amazon may
have changed the shipping industry but
as we’ll see in number 8 of our
countdown packages have always been a
part of the Christmas season in fact in
one of the biographies of Jesus we see
this account after what I believe is the
resurrection Jesus is sitting with his
students and he tells them this message
he says as the father has sent me I am
sending you and here Jesus isn’t just
saying that he was sent by God he’s
saying that you and I now have those
same marching orders as the father sent
him now he’s sending us you and I are
messengers with his message to share and
even if you’re not a follower pieces I
think we can all take away something
from these words here because think
about it you and I don’t get to decide
what his message is in fact that’s why
we have this entire channel called what
Jesus says about where Jesus speaks for
himself so you can respond for yourself
and hallmark doesn’t get to decide what
his message is televangelist don’t get
to decide what his messages he gets to
decide what his message is we can decide
whether or not we like the message but
it’s his message to send would be like
the UPS taking some of the 800 million
packages this month and opening them up
and switching out the contents and then
delivering them you’d be like I didn’t
order this and the person sending it
would be like that’s not what I meant to
send which leads us to how these words
from Jesus changed the way that you and
I celebrate the season and the next few
moments are whenever you have a moment
in all the revelry of the season if
someone came up to you or like a fifth
grader came up to you and said what is
the message of Jesus what would you say
and to make the exercise more insightful
instead of paraphrasing what you think
it is go straight to the source and look
at the biographies of Jesus and try to
find what do you think the message of
Jesus is find and cite the source and
regardless of
you think about Jesus or whatever
conclusion you’ve come to taking a few
moments this season as we celebrate his
birth to consider his message it’s a
great way to honor his birth now this is
not all that Jesus says about Christmas
that’s why I’ve got a playlist over here
of the other 25 things that Jesus says
about Christmas I’d be honored if you
would take a look
thanks so much oh don’t forget to hit
like and subscribe Merry Christmas and
we’ll see you soon

Having too much eggnog once is a mistake. But as you’ll see in #09 of our countdown, there’s another word for those mistakes we willingly and repeatedly do. And it’s a word that gives us an insight into Christmas.

Every day leading up to Christmas I’ll count down the “25 Things Jesus Says About Christmas” to see how it changes the way you and I celebrate the season when we go straight to the source!

Merry Christmas everybody my name is
Chris Pamela welcome to what Jesus says
about what we’re talking about 25 things
Jesus says about Christmas to see how it
changes the way you and I might
celebrate the season when we go straight
to the source now this time of year have
you ever felt like you were chasing
after the perfect Christmas I know I
have and then all of a sudden you have
this crazy anxiety over silly things
like whether kids smiled in a picture or
whether the present was the wow factor
we were going for or whether Uncle Joe
had you know too much eggnog but number
nine shows us how imperfection is
definitely a part of the season so in
the biographies of Jesus there’s this
account where he says I did not come to
call the righteous but sinners
now you might cringe at the word sin or
sinners and I get that that Christians
have used those terms as weapons for a
long time and I’m sorry about that but
it’s the word Jesus uses because we need
a word to describe those things that are
bigger than a mistake like what do you
call those things that you willingly and
intentionally and knowingly do even
though you don’t want to or even though
that you think that they are wrong like
when a politician gets on the TV and
apologizes for the mistake that they
made with their mistress that’s not a
mistake that that was a decision that
they made a mistake is whoops I forgot
to check the lights before I hung them
up or whoops I put a little bit too much
in this eggnog but for those things that
I willingly knowingly intentionally
repeatedly do I need another word for
that because a mistake doesn’t cut it
and that’s why Jesus uses this word sin
and don’t miss hear him he’s not saying
you’re a sinner because you sin he’s
saying you sin because you’re a sinner
it’s your condition and Jesus is saying
he’s not coming to call those who are
self-righteous he’s coming for those who
recognize and know they’re sinners he
came to sinners he hung out with sinners
he was described as a friend of sinners
sinners like you and sinners like me and
how does this change the way you and I
celebrate the season well recognize that
those who are forgiven the most
celebrate the most
this isn’t all that Jesus says about
Christmas as well we got a playlist over
here of the other 25 things Jesus says
about Christmas go ahead and take a look
also hit like and subscribe thanks so
much and we’ll see you soon mmm
delicious

You will see somewhere around 4,000 holiday ads today. All of them trying to get you to want what they promise more than you want your money. But as we see in #10 of our countdown, willpower isn’t limited to your spending habits.

Every day leading up to Christmas I’ll count down the “25 Things Jesus Says About Christmas” to see how it changes the way you and I celebrate the season when we go straight to the source!

hey everybody my name is Chris Pavel and
welcome to what Jesus says about what
we’re counting down with the 25 things
Jesus says about Christmas to see how it
changes the way you and I celebrate the
season when we go straight to the source
stop and think right now of just how
many Christmas ads you have seen in the
last 24 hours
pop up ads on websites TV commercials
radio spots pop-up ads and websites oh
boards window displays pop-up ads on
websites and catalogs and all of them
are designed to move you to an action
you otherwise wouldn’t take unless you
saw what it promises senator we run ads
but number 10 in our countdown shows us
that the ads for the season are somehow
strangely appropriate so in the
biographies of Jesus this is one time
where we get an account where Jesus
performs a miracle and then afterwards
he tells the crowd who’s astonished I
have come down from heaven not to do my
will but the will of who sent me and
everyone who’s listening to Jesus is
like okay so what is your father’s will
and Jesus answers and says my father’s
will is that everyone who looks to the
Son and believes in Him will have
eternal life now before you turn this
off for the overly spiritually sounding
language let’s unpack this a little bit
you and I may not use the word will very
often other than like a last will and
testament where you decide where you’re
gonna leave your kids after you’re gone
it’s a choice it’s your desire it’s what
you want it’s your work belief so really
what Jesus is saying is he wants what
his father wants and what his father
wants us to give eternal life to
everyone who looks to the son and wants
him maybe you don’t like the options
that Jesus presents here but notice in
the middle of all of this discussion
about what the father wants and what
Jesus wants he’s really respecting what
someone else wants you Jesus respects
your choice he respects your will so how
does this change the way that you and I
celebrate the season well the next time
you find yourself in undated with
pop-ups or ads all appealing to your
will all promising you something in
exchange for your money you don’t like
what is being said change the
conversation
now instead of letting all of these ads
drive the conversation promising you
different things you can stop it all
rise above it and ask yourself in a
whole new
question what do you want
